Me Made May 2018 Plans
Me Made May is here again! From the website:
Me Made May is a challenge designed to encourage people who make their own clothes to develop a better relationship with their handmade wardrobe.
It's been a while since I've participated in the challenge. The last time I did was in 2016, and while I didn't finish all the projects I'd planned during the month of May, they all got made — eventually.
Since I wear me-makes almost every day anyway, I want to build this year's challenge around a) what I love to wear and b) what's missing in my wardrobe.
#1 Zippered Hoodie
Yes, I need more zippered hoodies. Like I wrote last week, I've got the fabric for at least a couple more. Like these awesome mint green pandas. Unfortunately I don't have enough fabric for the entire hoodie but pairing it with a solid black for the sleeves and hood should leave me enough for the front and back pieces.
#2 Hooded Tunic
Tunics are the most comfortable thing to wear all through the colder months. Add a hood and pockets and this is pretty much my daily uniform — coupled with leggings and a cardi.
Raglan sweaters are the best pattern for combining fabric or colors because you can go for that baseball shirt look. I've got similar weights of burgundy and black French terry to make this hooded tunic: body in black, sleeves, pocket, and hood in red.
#3 Summer Dress
I don't usually go for floral prints so I don't know what came over me when I picked up this one. It's a really lovely, lightweight, flowy (possibly) rayon knit that would make a comfortable and easy-to-wear summer dress.
The coral polka dots above is a lightweight woven cotton. I'd love to turn it into either a fit-and-flare dress or something a little more involved, like a shirt dress.
#4 Something in Linen
Linen is the perfect summer fabric — cool, flowy and it doesn't matter if it looks wrinkled. It looks better wrinkled. I've been eyeing The Camber Set A-lined dress from Merchant & Mills, and I'd love to make it in the lovely Polar Gray linen from Kässäkerho Pom Pom. Or the Silt Gray, I haven't decided yet.
The pattern is a little pricey (£14.50) for such a simple garment but I've already got at three other pieces of fabric in my stash that would be perfect for this.
Are you participating in Me Made May 2018? How are you challenging yourself this year?
