Hygge (Holi)days!
Happy holidays! This year I'm giving you a Christmas present in the form of a brand new sweater pattern.
Hygge Days is a relaxed, raglan-sleeved sweater that's worked from the top down in a fuzzy aran or bulky-weight yarn. It might look like an ordinary, cozy sweater but there's a hidden surprise in the back...
The entire back of the sweater is worked in a cute snowflake lace pattern! Otherwise the sweater is done in stockinette, making it a really enjoyable, relaxing project. I didn't want to interrupt the back lace with shaping — it's so pretty as it is. That's why waist shaping is done only on the front of the body, kind of like princess seams in sewing.
Hygge Days uses the same neckline shaping method as Tweed is the New Black. This creates a nicely fitting, round neck that looks well-tailored and is really comfortable to wear. The neckband, hem, and cuffs are all done in two-by-two rib.
This sweater is best knit in a fuzzy brushed or blown yarn that are so popular this year. Big yarn and big needles make the sweater a really quick knit but the light and airy yarn ensures your sweater is also extremely light, warm, and comfortable.
I used Garnstudio DROPS Air (65% baby alpaca, 28% nylon, 7% wool, 150 m/50 g) in the colorway Fog for the sample sweater. A dead-ringer for Air is Sandnes Garn Kos: a slightly different fiber composition (62% baby alpaca, 29% nylon, 9% wool) but exactly the same yardage. Sandnes Garn Børstet Alpakka is another very similar yarn, just a bit thicker (96% alpaca, 4% nylon, 120 m/50 g).
The pattern for Hygge Days is now available on Ravelry. It comes in 7 sizes with both written and charted instructions for the snowflake lace.
And there's a knitalong already in progress in my Ravelry group! KALs usually start at the beginning of a new month or year but I didn't want to wait (and I think neither do you). The few days between Christmas and New Years are prime knitting time when you don't have to go anywhere or be any place but home.
So get your yarn and needles ready, settle in on the couch with holiday goodies, and let's get KAL-ing! Check out my Ravelry group for more information on how to join.
