Cheeky Bird
This is the tale of a project from fiber to FO.
Soon after getting my spinning wheel (in 2008!), I ordered spinning fiber from the now-defunct FreckleFaceFibers Etsy shop (which is sad, because she had some amazing stuff). It was the first thing spun on the wheel, and the first time I tried Navajo plying. And of course it showed – the yarn was terribly over-plied, kinked and ropey. The finished yarn was buried in the stash, waiting for the perfect project to show the subtle striping.
Then my friend Heidi designed yet another beautiful shawl and I knew this was it.
On Ravelry: Cheeky Bird
Pattern: Nurmilintu by Heidi Alander
Yarn: handspun Cheeky Navajo, about 370 yds/340 m, 100% Falkland from FreckleFaceFibers in Cheeky
Needles: 4.5 mm
The finished shawl was soaked in warm water with wool wash, then with hair conditioner – and it softened considerably. It feels woolly and Falkland-y but not at all scratchy. Perfect!
