The Spice Must Flow

This is a pattern I fell in love with even before it was released.

Melanie Berg posted teaser photos of On the Spice Market on Instagram when she was working on the design and I knew I had to knit this shawl as soon at it was out!

Sadly, I didn’t have the right yarn in my stash when she was looking for test knitters but that meant I had time to plan my colors carefully. The original is done in lovely muted colors and I knew I wanted something similar. Luckily Drops Alpaca comes in a bazillion colors which meant I was able to pick the perfect color palette.

The shawl is knitted sideways starting from the upper left corner. It starts with a section of garter-stitch color blocks shaped with short rows. Then the middle portion: small textural flower stripes in reverse color order. Finally, a section of color blocks divided by slipped-stitch rows in the main color.

A big and warm shawl for the winter – I love it!
