Sorelle
I might have mentioned a few weeks back I was on a sock binge. Here's one result of said binge: a new sock pattern.
Sorelle are a fun pair of lace socks that are just ideal for using lots of colors. You can knit two-color socks and make them identical, or by swapping the colors in the other sock, fraternal like I did. Or you can bust out your leftovers and go scrap-happy using as many colors as you want — and make the socks as matchy-matchy or non-match as you want!
The socks would also look really elegant and feminine in a single color, such as white, cream, or lavender blue.
However many colors you choose to use, you'll be able to whip up these socks quickly. The lace pattern is intuitive and easy to memorize, and has the perfect transition points for switching colors. Right and left socks are knitted identically and can be worked two at a time. And as usual, both written and charted instructions are given for the lace pattern.
The socks are knitted from the toe up in fingering-weight yarn with 66 stitches. That might sound like a lot but the lace pattern stretches tremendously, especially in the vertical direction, creating the neat wavy effect and hugging your feet nicely.
For the heel I wanted to do something different. The lace pattern has a couple of alternating knit and purl rows. When knitted in the round they look like garter stitch knitted flat. A garter stitch heel flap was an ideal match for the texture — plus it's really easy to knit!
